It is with great joy that we welcome Dr. Janet Smith back to the Theology of the Body Institute this August 22-27, 2010. Dr. Smith has been an instructor for the Institute since July 2008 and then again in June of 2009, to teach the "Love & Responsibility" Immersion Course. This August, she will unfold for our students the richness of Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body at our Theology of the Body I: "Head and Heart" Immersion Course.
The "Head and Heart" Immersion Course, offered in conjunction with the Institute for Priestly Formation and Creighton University, offers stimulating academic study and seeks to facilitate personal integration of the material, helping students journey from "head to heart." The week-long retreat includes five days of learning and interactive lecture, time for relaxation and networking with other TOB enthusiasts surrounded by 100 acres of beautiful wooded countryside and daily Mass, adoration, and confession.
Every class is a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the teachings of John Paul II and his liberating view of the human person. Over 1,000 people have attended this course from all over the world and every course has sold out. Janet E. Smith holds the Father Michael J. McGivney Chair of Life Ethics at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. She is the author of Humanae Vitae: A Generation Later, editor of Why Humanae Vitae Was Right: A Reader. She has coauthored Life Issues, Medical Choices, Questions and Answers for Catholics, with Chris Kaczor. She has a new book Right to Privacy, published by Ignatius Press. She speaks nationally and internationally on the Catholic teachings on sexuality and on bioethics and has published numerous articles on sexuality and bioethics. She is serving a second term as a consultor to the Pontifical Council on the Family. She received an honorary doctorate in Christian Ethics from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, an honorary doctorate from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary and the Veritas Award from the St. Thomas Aquinas Institute at Ave Maria University.
